Last weekend on four legs

We had a beautiful holiday weekend. It was filled with lots of lounging in the grass, and snuggles, and butt rubs. James and I did some important mental and emotional preparation for Ursa’s amputation. So many thanks goes to Tripawds for providing such quick and easy access education for us. I don’t know what we’d do without this unbelievably supportive and informed community!

Then today, we had an amazingly thorough and reassuring visit with our vet. We talked through all of our concerns and questions. She made us feel incredibly comfortable and confident moving forward with Ursa’s surgery on Thursday. I’m still nervous but I’ve felt my initial shock and sadness lift and am enjoying the time with my furry first born.

  1. OMGosh – those ears!!! She is absolutely beautiful! Glad to know the shock is wearing off a bit. The recovery will be hard for a couple of weeks, then you will be surprised how quickly your family gets used to their new normal.

  2. Preparation is important, so good for you! I’m glad the vet reassured you because you can’t fake calm. Tomorrow night will be difficult but please don’t think of it as her last day with four legs, think of Phase II or the First Day of the Rest of her Life or whatever works for you. You can do this and do it well!

  3. Ursa is a gorgeous girl! Sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers to Ursa for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery. Feel free to email me with any questions. 🙂

    Hugs and chocolate labby kisses,

  4. Yes indeed, the last week of pain and distress and being held back by a bum leg. You are on the edge of a new life with Ursa, one that will feel better to her than the one she’s had lately. Tate’s folks know about how important it is to get rid of the bad for our flat-coated friends. Ditch the painful stuff to get back to the water and the tennis balls, ASAP!

You have lots of folks who will be thinking about you and waiting to hear when Ursa’s surgery is over, so don’t forget to let us know. And make sure to tell us about the all-important first pee and poop. We all do the potty dance around here.

  5. Thank you all. You’re amazing! I’m sure I’ll be a nervous ball of energy tomorrow, but I’ll report back how she does soon!
